Artistic Touch Launches Russian Manicure – Beyond Technique Online Course
Industry News · Education and Training · 4 October 2026
Russian Manicure – Beyond Technique is a self-paced online Russian Manicure course created by Radina Ignatova and delivered through Artistic Touch Nail Training Academy for nail technicians who want to understand anatomy, e-file control, tool selection, technique and real-client adaptation.
Russian Manicure training often shows the sequence. Beyond Technique teaches the judgement behind the sequence. It is designed to help nail technicians move from copying and reacting to understanding, controlling and adapting, so that they make informed decisions based on the anatomy, tissue and client in front of them.
Disclosure: Radina Ignatova is the founder of both Artistic Touch Nail Training Academy and TheNailWiki.
A Russian Manicure Course Built Around Understanding
Russian Manicure is a precise, e-file-based technique, and it is often taught as a fixed order of movements. Russian Manicure – Beyond Technique takes a different starting point: anatomy before technique. The course asks nail technicians to understand what they are looking at before deciding what to do, so that each step has a reason behind it. For a general introduction to the technique itself, see TheNailWiki guide to Russian Manicure.
The aim is professional judgement rather than memorisation. A technician who knows why a decision is made can recognise when it needs to change. The course is built around four ideas:
- Understand, Not Memorise. Learn why each decision is made, not only what movement comes next.
- E-File Control Beyond RPM. Understand how speed, pressure, angle, contact, stabilisation and positioning work together.
- Different Client. Different Decision. See how the same principles are adapted across different real clients.
- Beyond the Manicure. Learn how to develop the technique into a complete professional salon service.
Why Fixed Routines Are Not Enough
A technician can copy a demonstration, a speed setting, a bit and a hand movement exactly, and still struggle when the next client presents differently. Skin, cuticle structure and sensitivity vary from one client to another, and a routine that works well on one set of hands may not suit the next.
Relying on a fixed routine tends to leave a technician reacting to problems as they appear. Beyond Technique is designed to replace that with understanding: knowing what is being assessed, why a decision changes when the tissue changes, and how to adjust deliberately. This is the central idea behind the course, and it is why the early modules cover the purpose of Russian Manicure and the anatomy that affects how a technician works before moving on to the e-file.
E-File Control Beyond RPM
The course does not treat RPM as a complete answer. Speed matters, but it is only one variable among several, and a number on a machine does not describe how the work is actually being controlled. Beyond Technique connects the variables that work together:
- speed
- pressure
- movement
- contact point
- bit angle
- stabilisation
- technician hand position
- client hand position
- workspace setup
- visibility
The purpose is to understand how these variables interact, so that an adjustment is deliberate rather than copied. The course also covers e-file tools, including how different bits behave, how to choose appropriately for the tissue, area and task, and how to clean, sterilise, store and care for them to a professional standard.
Different Client. Different Decision.
The same principles apply to every client, but the decisions that follow from them do not stay the same. Nail technicians who understand the reasoning can see how and why an approach changes when the tissue in front of them changes. This is the difference between knowing a routine and being able to adapt a technique.
The course puts this into practice through real-client demonstrations, described below. It does not ask students to learn a separate routine for each type of client. It asks them to understand the principles well enough to make informed decisions as the situation changes.
Learning Through Real-Client Demonstrations
Real-client demonstrations are a central part of the course. They show the same Russian Manicure principles being adapted across four different clients:
- Normal skin with shallower cuticle pockets, shown through the manicure and gel-polish application.
- Dry overgrown cuticle, a more challenging case with overgrowth and dry surrounding skin.
- Thin skin, a delicate case that calls for greater control and lighter handling.
- Sensitive skin, a delicate case that calls for careful control and shows how the technique is adapted.
The aim is not to memorise a separate routine for every client. It is to understand how and why your decisions change when the tissue changes. These demonstrations follow the step-by-step technique module, which covers the complete technique in detail, so that students see the full process first and then see how it is adapted.
From Technique to a Complete Professional Service
The course does not stop once the manicure demonstration is finished. Its final module, on finishing, aftercare and service positioning, treats Russian Manicure as a complete professional salon treatment and covers:
- aftercare and maintenance
- marketing and selling Russian Manicure
- pricing and positioning the service
- understanding when and how to increase prices
- building speed and confidence as experience grows
The intention is that a technician finishes the course able to assess, adapt and deliver Russian Manicure as a complete service, and to explain its value to clients.
